You can experience the delights of a Colonial America "singing school" with Neely Bruce, professor of music at Wesleyan University, master teacher, conductor, and American music expert. The events will be held at the Episcopal Church of St. Paul & St. James, at the corner of Chapel & Olive Streets, in New Haven.
Sacred Harp (or "shape note") singing emphasizes participation, rather than performance. The repertory includes psalm tunes, fuging tunes, odes and anthems by the first American composers, settings of folk songs and revival hymns, and songs by living composers. Prof. Bruce will lead the group to produce the unique choral sound of this music. Besides which, it's great fun!
